Gottman is the author of 190 published academic articles, and best selling author or co-author of over 40 books including “The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work”, “What Makes Love Last”, “The Relationship Cure”, “Why Marriages Succeed or Fail”, and the newest book, "Fight Right”.

Learn More about your presenters...The Art and Science of Love Workshop is designed to strengthen your relationship through engaging presentations and skill building exercises that are grounded in research. Lisa and Michael will share many humorous stories, film clips and role plays. During the first day, you will learn how to build and maintain fondness, admiration, and closeness in your relationship or marriage. On the second day, you will work on conflict management while learning new and important communication skills. All of the exercises are designed to address your real-life challenges and you will work only with your partner. During the exercises, the presenters remain available to consult with those couples who desire help. There is no group work or public disclosure. This is an experiential, psycho-educational workshop for couples, and is not therapy. The workshop is a terrific weekend couple getaway. At the end of the workshop you will leave with a greater understanding of your relationship and the skills to repair or enhance it.
Research shows that on average, couples wait six years from the first signs of problems before they seek help. The workshop is designed to strengthen your marriage and/or relationship. If you have a strong relationship, this workshop will provide you with insights and tools to make it a great one. If your relationship is distressed, this workshop will provide a road map for repair. If you are dealing with domestic violence, serious drug or alcohol addiction, or serious mental health problems this workshop may not be appropriate for you. In these cases, please consult with Lisa.
Whether you choose to work on your relationship in The Art & SCIENCE of Love (ASL): Weekend Retreat and Couples Workshops, or in Couples or Marriage Counseling with a Gottman Certified Therapist, you are in good hands. In both venues you will be actively working with your partner in structured exercises designed to build your connection and increase understanding and empathy for one another even when you disagree. The workshop is a very powerful change agent for most couples. Some couples may need more assistance than can be provided in a workshop setting. If you have any questions about the best fit for your particular situation, feel free to call Lisa to discuss your options.
Couples are not asked to share any private information in the ASL Couples Retreat and Workshops. The presenters will lecture, show films and demonstrate with humorous role plays the right and wrong way to go about a particular exercise. Couples will then practice the communication exercise on their own. If they need help they may raise their hand and Lisa or another Certified Gottman Therapist will assist them.
